Intro 00:31
Ford Prefect 02:39

Since the last time...
In September 2006, Jstn moved into the King Bear in Bloomington, Indiana. He started working on a new set of beats to occupy time until Lndsy moved there in October. On October 10, we got married and decided to become full time rap-star-world-adventurers.

In December we moved into the Finhouse. We put the computer in the basement so it could mingle with drums and guitars. At this point we are both working as bike messengers. We live with a psychedelic noise band and spend our evenings planning our upcoming tours and adventures. And we decided to make a tape. So songs appeared...

The first was Life is Simple. This started as just a dark drone at the King Bear and then lyrics appeared and a beat followed after the move to the Finhouse. This is part one of three songs in the theme of "Life is Simple, Work is Simple, You are Simple." Inspired by the Replacements.

Then two inspirations came via bicycle. Big Time Drug Czar is the product of ritualistic drug use. Nathan Warrick played the noisy violins. Ford Prefect came next. The title was inspired by a week long obsession with all things Hitchhiker's Guide. The bass line was written by Eric Alexander. The glitch sounds were made using a home made glitch box.

Then, we conceptualized a spell that would protect squirrels in our town from tragic death that we frequently witness; execution by car. The magick ritual ritual occurred on February 3, 2007. This recording is a recreation of that ritual.

The lyrics of On Becoming Water are based on the book "Journey into Nature" by Michael J. Roads. Jstn transcribed a passage from the book last summer and then rewrote it all to fit into this song. Nathan Warrick played the panpipes. The wind chime samples came from a website selling wind chimes. For Jstn, this song was the start of an obsession with Pan, god of Nature.

In February, we prepared to go on tour. We planned to tour as a full five piece band, but in the end, it ended up as three piece with Erick Sherman filling the gap between us: Drums. We worked out a set using instruments instead of samples. Lndsy played lots of keyboards and trumpets. Erick fleshed out most of the rest with drums, keyboards, and bells. Jstn mostly just rapped over it all. We wanted to put one of these tour version songs on the tape. We chose Cinnabar Fields because it sounded so different than the album version. We recorded the song the day after tour in the Finhouse basement.

Then two weeks later, our friend Lisa K Fett sent us the artwork she made for us and we started making copies. We hand dubbed the tapes for your maximum personal connection to us.
